Mod Design in the Summertime

Summer is a great time of year to transform your home into a space with simple, bright, modern décor. I feel one great way to achieve that look is the mod trend. The mod culture originated in London during the 1950s and today is the perfect trend for those in favor of simple lines, minimal approach and elegant touches.  Summertime gives way to the light and bright touches of the mod décor.  And I’ve chosen some great ways you can incorporate mod style into your home.  Try a few accent pieces or coffee tables made from glass, artwork with sharp geometric shapes or installing wood floors that are bleached oak.  Just take a look below to see how these ideas can fit seamlessly into any space.  Then let us know what you think by commenting below or join The Decorative Touch on our Facebook page.

A Whole New Way to Tuft

A Whole New Way to Use Tuft

OK. Random thought. What if we saw the true potential in tufting? What if we can see how it can add glamour to any room or any space? How about if we don’t just assume it belongs in our grandmother’s living room but instead maximize all that its beauty can be. And that’s exactly what the Decorative Touch loves to do — tuft our hearts galore. We saw some amazingly beautiful pictures in Elle, and these photos prove our point. No matter the room — the bedroom, living room or dining room — somehow in some way, it just seems to work. And we can make it work for you. Connect with us at the Decorative Touch if this look is something you’d like to try. We can help. And in the meantime be moved by the glamorous pictures below.

Vintage Doors for Interior Design

Vintage Doors for Interior Design

As an interior designer, I like to maximize the  juxtaposition of modern decor with antique accents in homes. The look is a personal fave of mine because of how dynamic the contrast is. One way to achieve this real-world oxymorom is to infuse antique doors into a transitional-styled home. Of course it takes a design expert to successfully accomplish this delicate balance.  Antique doors accent a traditional or modern-minimal looking home very nicely, adding warmth, texture, unique architecture and charm to a home.

In honor of the beauty of old doors, I’ve decided to share this photo from the magazine Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles with you for inspiration. As as lover of vintage, I exhort you to use antique doors to transform spaces when you want to add architectural flavor to your room.

Aerin Lauder Will Launch a New Home Accessories Line Summer 2012

Aerin Lauder Will Launch a New Home Accessories Line Summer 2012

The granddaughter of beauty pioneer Estée Lauder is launching an eponymous home accessories and beauty line, simply called Aerin. Currently, Aerin Lauder is the creative executive and tastemaker of Estée  Lauder, but this summer her efforts will also include this new business endeavor. Apparently she has her the same style, taste and business savvy as her iconic grandmother.

Architectural Digest  got a look at her Manhattan offices, which sits on 57th Street and Madison Avenue — a quintessential intersection of hustle and bustle in NYC. The editors of architecturaldigest.com shared the photos of the design of the upscale space online. The office certainly is breathtaking and takes on the ambiance of the brand that long stood before her, Estée  Lauder. And so The Decorative Touch is sharing the with you photos — to be inspired.

Take a look at the pictures we’ve included in this blog, and sound off below by leaving a comment.

Libraries with a Unique Design

Libraries with a Unique Design

When many of us think of a library in the home, we are tempted to conjure up thoughts of traditional decor. But these days, libraries can show off different styles just as much as any room in the home. On the blog desiretoinspire.net,  I spotted some beautiful examples of the avant-garde flavor that a library can have. These rooms make it very trendy to love to read books. The color palette incorporates neutral and muted tones as well as crisp and modern. These images from photographer R. Brad Knipstein are simply divine. What do you think of the pictures I’ve placed below? Are you in love? Leave a comment, or just drop me a line on Facebook.
