Leave Them Open

If your kitchen design is starting to bore you then it’s time to switch things up. Redesigning your kitchen cabinets will give your kitchen the slightest, but noticeable face lift. Traditionally we store all our everyday dishes behind opaque cabinet doors while our finest china gets all the attention in a display case. Transform your kitchen by opening up your cabinets and showing off your stylish dishware. Your cabinet doors can be removed, replaced with glass or simply left open. Painting the inside of the cabinets  adds a pop of color and makes your kitchen inviting. What do you think about open cabinetry?

Island Style

Typically you can find kitchen islands in majority of today’s newer homes. Many people are even remodeling and adding islands to their kitchens. With the high demand, islands can be found to match every personality and design theme. If you prefer intricate crown molding, you can have what is already displayed throughout your home incorporated into your island. It can be simple, detailed, modern, rustic and whatever else imaginable. You can even have your island flow into a bar, seating area or  have extra cabinetry for storage. With the endless options, here are a few unique island styles we like.

Décor Double Take: Something’s Gotta Give

kitchen-adI saw the movie a long time ago, but to all my movie going friends out there, another great designer-friendly movie that I will never forget is Something’s Gotta Give. How wonderful was this family room? Doesn’t it just make you want to sit down and relax? Oh, how and I could go on about how fantastic the kitchen was with all that great white cabinetry. The overall theme screamed vacation. Wouldn’t it be fabulous to have a beach home that felt this rejuvenating? It was a beach home that we all long for—I can almost smell the ocean air and not to mention the views! And Dianne Keaton and Jack Nicholson were quite a pair. It just feels good to see love can happen at any age.

Featured project: Leawood Kitchen Remodel

The 14’x16′ kitchen was the weakest part of this beautiful Leawood home. But the homeowners had dreams of gathering around a large center island and entertaining friends and family in a more open and welcoming space. Our main challenge was to keep the roof line the same and work within the existing foundation. We removed one of the two 1/2 baths and expanded the opening between the kitchen and hearth rooms. Our feature of the stone opening and large center island gave the owners the open, functional space they were hoping for. The high-end Wolf stove and steamer are fabulous appliances and the Sub-Zero refrigerator is secretly hidden behind the beautiful new cabinetry.

Check back on Thursday for some useful tips on kitchen remodeling.
