27th Annual Spinach Festival

Lenexa is the Spinach Capital of the world, at least that’s what it was referred to as back in the 1930’s. This weekend will be host the 27th Annual Lenexa Spinach Festival. The celebration will include antiques and craft exhibits, live entertainment, a baby crawling race, a spinach recipe contest, tasting of the World’s Largest Spinach Salad, and various activities. Be sure to bring your family out to Sar-Ko-Par-Trails Park Saturday to get a taste of why Lenexa was deemed the Spinach Capital, and to get them to eat their vegetables in a fun way.Spinach Festival logo

Waterfest 2010

Lenexa’s 11th annual Waterfest is scheduled for Saturday, July 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park. Bring the family for some Waterfest favorites like paddle boating, waterslides, cane pole fishing and more while learning how to keep water clean from over 25 area nonprofits. The Kansas City Zoo, the Ernie Miller Nature Center and Operation Wildlife will have live animals on hand. Live entertainment will be provided by The Ruskin Quartet. Attendees who visit all booths will be entered in a drawing for prizes, which include Kansas City Royals tickets. Free hotdogs will be available while supplies last, as well as free water in large coolers so remember to bring your water bottles. Admission is free so put the kids in the car (don’t forget to wear swimsuits) and join the fun at Waterfest 2010!

Fourth of July Celebrations

America’s birthday is in a few days and it’s time to get any last minute celebration plans underway. Do you usually celebrate by relaxing with family, attending a parade or fireworks show, taking a trip or barbecuing? Well if you are staying in and hosting, try creating some patriotic dishes. Battle of the Barbeque

Great Lenexa Barbeque BattleWell Lenexa it’s time for the official Kansas State Championship, the Great Lenexa Barbeque Battle. Keeping with tradition, the battle will be held the fourth Saturday of June which is this weekend the 25th and 26th. The 195 contestants from all-over will bring their secret recipes and personal smokers to compete for the coveted title of the Grand Champion of the Great Lenexa Battle. Samples will be judged by 240 judges in the following categories: brisket, pork, ribs, sausage, chicken, whole animal, and miscellaneous. Come out to Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park this weekend for barbeque, children’s activities and music with the community!
