The Fabulous Foyer

They say first impressions are everlasting, so since the foyer is the first impression your home will make on guests, we want to inspire you to create a decor for your foyer. The entryway can be just as creative as other parts of your home.

For example, we were drawn to this foyer because of the design of the chair. This seat has been upholstered, allowing the fabric to keep a relevant, updated feel while preserving the antique ambiance of the chair.

If you’ve read the last few posts of this blog, you know that we are huge fans of antiques and vintage. The entryway of your home is a great way to let all of your guests know how much you appreciate things of old. In this foyer, antiques included the American hooked rugs. Such a nice touch.

When you think of adding a family portrait to your home, you typically envision a large painting above the fireplace. But there’s more than one way to include this classic tradition. We are urging you to think of the new way to add paintings and portraits to your home.

For instance, pillows are an avant-garde way to add the feel of paintings throughout the home. This way, including paintings becomes much more versatile, with the idea lending itself to the the traditional living room scenario but also in places such as on top of your bed, in a chair, or on a sofa.

Also, portraits can travel with you as a tote bag, and when you come home, you can leave the bag hanging on a hook to display the painting when you are not using it. Be open to putting portraits on accent pieces, such as ceramic jars and throws for the sofa.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the 38th Annual Parade

Whether you have Irish roots or not, come out this Thursday and celebrate with the rest of Kansas City at the 38th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This year’s theme boosts the title, ‘No Small Potatoes: A Tribute to the Wee Irish.’ As one of the largest celebratory parades this year’s guests will enjoy large floats reminiscent of the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, leprechauns and a shower of lucky charms. Just as the theme for this year’s parade pays tribute to the wee Irish the Wee Irish Village will include a moonwalk, face painting, balloon animals and much more. Be sure to head out this Thursday for a good time in Kansas City and honor the Irish with the community. If you can’t make it to the parade watch the live broadcast on Fox 4.

Have you been hearing a lot of chatter about your favorite fashion designers creating home collections? This upcoming spring there will be another new line from a famed fashion designers. Kate Spade of the famous handbag line kate spade new york will not only be making a splash on your arms with her handbags but on your bedroom and bathroom interiors. The bedding and bath collection will introduce seven bold color and print designs this upcoming February 2011. The ever so sophisticated and playful label currently has housewares available, which will tie in with the new collection through matching prints. What do you think of collection from the handbag line, is it perfect for spring and summer?

Halloween Events in Lenexa

Parents and grandparents, are you looking for some Halloween festivities for your little ones before you head out trick-or-treating Sunday? There are a few Halloween events going on right here in Lenexa, KS for the entire family. This week’s happenings include Pumpkin Carving Night and The Enchanted Forest. To participate in Pumpkin Carving Night all you have to do is bring a pumpkin to carve, which will then be donated to the Enchanted Forest for the Pumpkin Bridge display. The Enchanted Forest, Lenexa‘s Halloween-themed woodland trail, will be held throughout the jogging trail at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park. The park will be transformed with seasonal displays with numerous kid friendly activities. There will even be a bonfire at the end for the whole family to enjoy. Let your kid’s tryout their costumes a few days early and celebrate Halloween with the city of Lenexa!

What: Pumpkin Carving Night
When: Tuesday Oct. 26th 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Where: Lenexa Community Center
Admission: 1 pumpkin

What: The Enchanted Forest
When: Wednesday Oct.27th and Thursday Oct. 28th from 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Where: Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park
Admission: $1 per person including children. Costumes encouraged for all.

I would love to promote how happy I am to see Sherwin Williams and Robert Allen Fabrics come together to create three new collections, being that my other business Exclusive Interiors is a Robert Allen Fabric gallery. The partnership is a win-win situation, they both help each other and the average customer select wonderful fabrics and paint when generally they are lost on a boat without a paddle.

I commend Jackie Jordan along with Sherwin Williams, as I attend her conference every time she is in Kansas City. She always updates us on the upcoming season of trends and forward thinking for what will be happening globally in the color world. Tell me, what do you think? Aren’t some of the names of some of the Sherwin Williams paints fascinating?
