Blue and White Dish Decor

We’ve all visited a friend’s house or passed through the fine china section of a department store and gushed over the classic blue and white china. If you’ve been contemplating adding the timeless dinnerware to your home now is the time. The classic blue and white color combination is heavily in demand and probably not in the way you think. Instead of displaying your dishes in a china cabinet decorate your home with them.

By displaying the dishes whose colors represent the serene sky and sea throughout your home you can bring in a true feeling of warmth and comfort. You can arrange the dishes in a mosaic to be featured on the wall or as part of a vignette to be displayed on your coffee or entryway table. Not crazy about the idea of using dishes to decorate? Take the design and color of the dishes and translate them into your room instead. Check out these examples and let us know what you think!

The New Kitchen Island: Oversized Dinner Tables

Aside from the every day appliances what is the one thing you will more than likely see when entering a home’s kitchen? An island. Ever since kitchen islands broke onto the scene they have been a kitchen staple. Many include various features such as storage, cooking space, and additional amenities. As interior design has evolved the kitchen island has taken on a new form and function. And depending on your lifestyle you may find them to be more functional than ever before.

The new kitchen island is something we’ve seen before, only on a larger scale. Kitchen islands are now imitating the design of oversized dinner tables. They can be seen featuring leg forms commonly found on tables with less storage space if any. The classic dinner table design is even more exemplified when seating is include on multiple sides.

Take a look at a few of the new kitchen islands we found and let us know what you think!

Pantone Releases Fall 2011 Color Report

Does it seem as though Pantone just recently released the 2o11 color of the year? Well now they’ve released their Fall 2011 Color Report during New York Fashion Week. Every year a team of fashion designers reveal their color inspirations for the design industry which always end up being the most popular and sought after. This year designers have combined bright colors with staple neutrals. The combination is stated to be reminiscent of the complementing colors artists use in paintings.

This year’s must have colors for fall include Bamboo, Emberglow, Honeysuckle, Phlox, Cedar, Deep Teal, Nougat, Orchid Hush, and Quarry. And as fashion and interior design so often go hand in hand, these colors will play major roles in interiors throughout the year. romantic interior design

Add Romance to Your Interior Design

Do you love all things romantic and flirty, but it doesn’t translate through the interior design of your home? Romantic decor is gaining popularity and the flirty look can be achieved with a few key pieces. Feminine and romantic decorative accessories soften a room and deliver just the right amount of romanticism. Keep these tips in mind if you want to add romance to your interior design:

romantic interior design

  • Use pink. Incorporate the ultimate romantic color in any room with small pieces in light or dark shades.
  • Keep it soft. Add soft textured fabrics such as silk, velvet or faux fur, avoid denim, microsuede and leather.
  • Make a statement. Add a large mirror to make a statement and brighten up a room.
  • Remember the details. When it comes to upholstery choose tufting and nailhead trims to play up the romance.
  • Add pattern. Use floral patterns in small amounts such as a decorative pillow or small ottoman so the design isn’t overbearing.

If you are in the Kansas City area and want to discuss additional ways to add romance to your interior design? Call Janine of The Decorative Touch today to begin brainstorming for your design!

Bathroom interior design by The Decorative Touch

Lock Lloyd Master Bathroom Addition

Today I am happy to show a photo of a newly completed renovation in a secluded subdivision in Kansas City called Lock Lloyd that I was fortunate enough to work on! This master bathroom project was so exceptional that it’s easy to see how  fabulous taste and great design come together. I honestly think this bathroom is some of my best work ever.

The addition called for a specific need to create a “slip resistant” area due to the steps leading up to the soaking tub. I drew a “carpet look” runner made out of mosaic tile so that the grout lines would create a more durable surface. The result ended up being a gorgeous, custom tile creation that is truly a focal point in the bathroom.  The bath is a true oasis of relaxation and elegance, from the spa blue wall-covering to the crystal chandelier, and all the beautiful accent tile. The homeowner is truly reflected in their choices of materials, and our design has brought together interior design perfection!

Take a look at just how beautiful the project turned out to be…
